Sample Itinerary - Kayak Lake Mead

6:00 to
6:30 a.m.
  Hotel Pickups from Las Vegas Strip
7:00 a.m.   Arrive at Desert Adventures for check-in and paperwork. Coffee and restrooms are available as guests are fitted with equipment and buy any last minute items.
8:00 a.m.   Arrive at the beaches of Lake Mead. Unload boats, equipment, and gear. Basic paddling instruction will be provided, along with instructions on care of boats, rudder use, and general safety briefing. Begin paddling once group is in the water.
8:30 a.m.   Kayak leisurely toward the Boulder Islands
8:50 a.m.   Stop at cement ring where old batch plant existed. Briefly talk about significance in the construction of the Dam.
9:00 a.m.   Kayak about 1 mile.
9:05 a.m.   Paddle into an alcove where birds are usually spotted. Explore area and take photos. There are many old skeletons of boats which are emerging from the Lake in the past year due to receding water levels.
9:15 a.m.   Kayak about 3/4 of a mile.
9:30 a.m.   Arrive at Boulder Islands. Here you can enjoy a short hike to the top of the Islands where a memorial exists and the views are spectacular.
10:00 a.m.   Kayak about 3/4 of a mile out toward the Sentinel Island, exploring the blue waters. Fortification Hill is in the distance and on a clear day you can see fish swimming below your kayak.
10:30 a.m.   Lunch Break. Enjoy a delicious picnic style lunch on the beach. Relax in the sun or take a swim in the refreshing waters.
11:15 a.m.   Kayak about 1 and 1/2 miles
11:40 a.m.   Arrive back at Boulder Beach. Load equipment and boats
12:00 p.m.   Stop at Hemenway park to view wildlife
12:15 p.m.   Brief stop at shop to use restrooms and buy souvenirs
1:00 p.m.   Arrive at hotels on Las Vegas Strip

Details: Approximately 3 hours of leisurely paddling on Lake Mead, to several islands. Water conditions are mostly flat, but can be choppy depending on wind, waves, and weather.

Equipment: Kayaks are high end, stable, and have rudders for steering. All safety equipment is provided, along with dry bags. Single or tandem boats available.

Distance: 3-4 miles

Difficulty: Easy - Moderate
Skill Level: Beginner +
