About the Experience

A great option for DIY paddlers is to take advantage of our kayak and canoe rental program on Lake Mead. Lake Mead's beaches are easily accesible by car and allow for BBQ's, games, sun and enjoyment for the whole family.  If you have some basic kayaking experience, rentals can be an option.  If you have never paddled before, we highly recommend a guided tour for your first experience, or taking a kayak class before venturing out on your own.

Sit-on-top kayaks are the preferred boat in summer and are perfect for all skill levels. Beginners will find the shallow waters near the beach very inviting, and you can even try a stand-up paddleboard if you feel adventurous!

Cruise out to the Boulder Islands for a leisurely hike, look for seashells on the beaches, and take a dip in the largest man-made lake in the United States. The waters are crystal clear and you can often spot fish swimming in the water beneath your boat.

Pack yourself a picnic lunch, and take a break on the Bouder Islands to eat, lay in the sun, or swim in the refreshing waters. Be sure to wear a bathing suit in summer months; the water temperatures are perfect for swimming.

Based on our experience, we suggest items for your trip - but you should bring what work for you. The desert can be cool in the mornings, and extremely hot in the midday sun. Summer temperatures are searing, and you will want protection from the sun. If you have any questions, please contact us and we will help you find the right gear.

IMPORTANT:  It is your responsibility to know your own limits, be prepared, and make your own judgements about weather and risk.  We will do our best to offer insight and help you make a decision, but ultimately your safety is your own responsibility.  When you purchase this service, you are paying for equipment rental and delivery only.  You should have basic capsize recovery skills, know how to deal with wind, waves, and weather, and be able to handle yourself in deep water.  If this makes you nervous, we STRONGLY suggest a guided trip.
